“Gimme your hand.”

“Yer not gunna spit onnit again are you cuz I dun wanna have monkey spit on my hands!”

“Ugh. No. I’m not going to spit on your hand. Just give it here I’m going to teach you something okay?”

The little blue eyed duckling frowned at her sister in serious consideration. Five years old and already chock full of suspicion, wonderful… Gosalyn groaned to herself. After a slight pout she found the little white hand in hers. Instinctively she started pretending like she was going to spit on it and the little duckling squeaked and tried to pull away.  She couldn’t help but laugh as she took her pen and put it in the little girl’s hand.

“You’re gunna get in trubble if you try that again…” grumbled the five year old.

“Yeah yeah… and if you tattle on me Mil you’re gunna find your teddy bear on top of the fridge where you can’t reach it.” She said calmly as she received a horrified stare in return. “Settle down sheesh. I know Dad’s been working on you writing your name… so let’s see it.” She tapped the paper with one of her pale yellow fingers and propped her chin up in her hands.

Mildred’s face split in a wide smile. She was always eager to show off, and she was especially eager to show off to her. Gos didn’t need her father to remind her how much Milly looked up to her… she knew it just fine, but he still did… at least fifteen times a day. She shook her head and watched the intense concentration and the death grip the small hand held on the pen. The bit of plastic was shaking with how hard and precise the duckling attacked the paper. Long uneven drags to make a messy ‘M’ followed by a series of shapes that vaguely resembled letters.

“There!” Milly chirped, as if she were being timed and it was Gosalyn’s cue to hit the stopper on the clock.

The fifteen year old’s eyes scanned the paper.

“’Mildred’.” She read aloud. “That’s great Mil. How about Dad’s name? Can you write that?”

Milly nodded happily and took on her battle stance again as she put the pen down roughly on the paper. Before she could even make a line the big blue eyes were on her again.

“What’s Daddie’s name again?”

She couldn’t help but snort in laughter.

“Drake.”

“Oh yeah…” Milly said lightly as she made a large imposing ‘D’ flanked by more peculiar scribbles.  “See?”

“Keen gear,” She smiled lightly and grabbed a pen of her own.  She scrawled a word on the page in her usual unruly chicken scratch and tucked the pen in her hair. “What’s that say?” She prompted her sister.

“…G…Go…Goobie Ghoulie?” The child said hopefully.

Gosalyn rolled her eyes with a sigh.

“No. What the heck is a Goobie Ghoulie?”

“I dunno! You’re the one that wrote it!”

“Hush.” She tapped her bill and put her hand over the last part of  the word. “Read that.”

“…Can I go play now?”

“Oh stuff it and read it already ‘Goobie’.”

“I’m notta Goobie…” Milly mumbled spitefully to herself as she looked at the paper. “…GGggggggooooosssss..”

She lifted up her hand. “Go on.”

“Aaaaaaaal-l-ly….n. Gosalyn!” She squealed. “That’s your name!” She patted the paper excitedly. “And I read it!”

“You sure did. And you can see how to spell it too so you can write my name and Dad’s name incase anyone asks you who the coolest father and sister in the history of the world are, right?”

“Yeah! Then I can read it to them!”

“Yep.”

“Keen gear! “

“Oh… and now you can also read my name so you can tell what stuff is MINE and you’re not supposed to touch it.” She folded her arms, ah here we are. The purpose behind our little bonding moment. Milly immediately cringed and gave her the sweetest little smile her adorable little face could cook up.

“Your stuff?” she replied innocently.

“You know the things I keep in boxes with my name on it. Like my comics… that AREN’T coloring books.” She narrowed her eyes.

“…oh.” The little duckling peeped and hugged the paper to her chest. “…yes. YES I KNOW BETTER NOW! NO NOOGIES!” She shrieked as she ran out of the room.

Gosalyn just sighed and shook her head as she was left in the wake of hurricane Mildred. It was rough being a big sister…

I wouldn't know myself, not having a sibling to be an elder isster to, but I'm guessing that's pretty much what it's like? x333
